A Letter from the Wellington Circus Trust Board
Kia ora Hub community and whānau,
Didn’t we have the most fantastic performances at the Hub on 13 December. We hope you had the chance to join us, but if not, there are plenty of breathtaking moments shared online—and worth checking out on our social channels!
We also send thanks to those who came to the Hub on Sunday 14 to our community update meeting and for the insightful questions and comments. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and support.
Fundraising Success:
In the last week, not only has the amazing and relentless effort of our community resulted in raising over $60,000 in a short 4 weeks, but the Board has also been approached by a generous person willing to make a significant donation to support the Trust keep the Hub open.
These two fundraising efforts have provided enough of a financial foundation for us to approach Te Whaea who have agreed to renew our lease for the Hub. The details are still being worked through, but this is a big step towards starting the New Year with some financial stability and a way for classes to restart sooner than later in 2026.
The 2026 Circus Trust Reset
The positive indication from Te Whaea and the donation come with the expectation that we’ll continue the work to make the Trust and the Hub financially sustainable as quickly as possible. This is the only meaningful response to repay you for the huge fundraising efforts you have contributed to and ensure that there will always be a place for circus in Wellington.
So 2026 is our reset year - a reset of how the Trust operates, for how we use the space well, how we organise and run classes effectively, how our staff and trainers work together and how we do things as a community. More to follow on this in 2026.
Upcoming Dates
In the meantime, and in the spirit of the reset we need in 2026, here are some dates for you to be aware of:
Mid January - Posting updates on 2026 classes and space use
10 January - Hub Scrub - volunteers needed - payment in pizza : )
14/15 February - Circus Trust Reset - Community planning event
If you want to roll up your sleeves for the Hub Scrub (10 Jan) or are interested in the Community Reset Event (14/15 February) let us know at info@circus.org.nz
We’ll be sharing more information on these in early 2026 but for the time being hold the dates.
Most importantly, thank you
This is our last update for this year. We wish you a wonderful break over Christmas and the New Year. Enjoy as much circus and sunshine as you can get, and for those who’ve jumped in so hard to support us over the last two months, thank you and please, take a break!
