Summary in numbers:

The Circus Hub is the largest circus training space in New Zealand. 

  • Each week we run 20+ classes for young people (aged 3-16 years),

  • Each week we run 40+ classes for adults (aged 16+). 

  • We reach more than 1,600 students per year, plus additional students who participate in parties and group bookings through outside groups (such as birthday parties, hen parties, school groups, etc.).

  • We run a School Holiday Program, for up to 40 young people per weekday, between term times.

  • We host the circus training space of a full time circus diploma/degree training program for currently 23 students of Te Auaha / Whitireia.

  • Every three months we have a free/koha community event by our teachers, students, and local professional artists, as part of our RAW Circus Showcase.  This typically attracts 350 audience members. 

  • We have 2,700 followers to our Facebook page.

  • We have 3,000 subscribers to our monthly newsletter.

  • We have up to 12 meter high ceilings for Aerial skills, and over 550 square meters of floor space.

  • In 2017 we hosted an International 'Summer School' with five international performers / teachers flown in from around the world, training 25 circus students from around NZ and Australia.

  • In September 2017, 12 performers from the Circus Hub performed with Wellington Orchestra, at the Michael Fowler Centre, to a sell out audience of 2,200.

  • We have 17 trainers, one admin staff, one finance staff, two cleaners, and one GM. 

  • We run classes seven days a week, between 6am and 9pm, up to 52 weeks a year.

  • We have countless volunteers who assist us in a variety of ways, from Graphic Design, maintenance, painting, professional training, and a board of nine volunteer Trustees. 

  • We receive less than 4% of our annual turnover (around $340,000) from grants.  The rest is raised through our circus classes and some charitable donations.

  • Wellington Circus Trust was formed in 2007.  Since 2012 we have been located in Te Whaea building in Newtown.
